Espiritu del Xarey (ex Whirlaway)

The plan with Espiritu del Xarey  was to enhance performance under sail without giving up the high standard of comfort and luxury onboard. This was achieved by increasing draft to 4.7m, thereby lowering the ballast and adding righting moment. Further, an extending dagger board was designed to take the draft to 7m when sailing upwind.

Substantial weight saving was achieved by constructing the interior from specially designed and built lightweight panels whilst still retaining full soundproofing. Thermal and acoustic insulation was added as necessary but with weight saving in mind, improved forms of insulation were sourced and fitted wherever possible.

Alustar aluminium was used and high modulus carbon chosen for the mast and spars. The increased righting moment allowed for a taller rig.

Espiritu del Xarey ’s performance is exceptional for a boat of this type and probably represents the best performing yacht of this style yet launched.
